Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma
Non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) includes over 70 types of cancers affecting white blood cells, which are part of the immune system. These cancers develop when genetic changes and other factors disrupt normal cell growth and functioning, and can present as enlarged lymph nodes, inflammation, or, more rarely, abdominal masses or rashes.
Common pediatric forms include mature B-cell lymphoma, lymphoblastic lymphoma, and anaplastic large cell lymphoma, among others. “Non-Hodgkin” distinguishes these diseases from Hodgkin lymphoma, a separate and more defined subtype. Langerhans cell histiocytosis (LCH) can resemble NHL but arises from a different type of white blood cell.
