COG’s Work in Hodgkin Lymphoma

Children’s Oncology Group’s (COG) Hodgkin Lymphoma Committee incorporates biologically targeted therapies to maintain high cure rates at initial diagnosis. The Committee tailors the use of radiation therapy and certain chemotherapy based on a patient’s disease burden at diagnosis and their response to early treatment, allowing for a more personalized care approach.

The Committee works in partnership with groups at the National Cancer Trials Network (NCTN) to ensure novel therapies can be tested and available to AYA with Hodgkin lymphoma at the same time as adults. In parallel, the Committee evaluates the impact of new treatment strategies on patients’ quality of life. For patients with a relapse or recurrence of Hodgkin lymphoma, the Committee is developing approaches to minimize the use of autologous stem cell transplant when possible.

Hodgkin Lymphoma: Key Statistics

  • > 0 %

Survival rate for children and adolescents with advanced stage Hodgkin lymphoma.

  • > 2 years old

The age approved for use of the antibody drug conjugate Brentuximab vedotin thanks to a COG trial (AHOD1331) that resulted in FDA approval.

Through a high-risk Hodgkin lymphoma study in partnership with SWOG Cancer Research Network, we identified a new standard of care with our adult colleagues and got our adolescent and young adult patients access to a new therapy potentially a decade earlier than they would have otherwise.
